2025 Impact Report

 Leadership Letter

Our Donors

2025 Board of Directors

Your commitment to a world where cancer is prevented, cured, and managed is driven by one critical goal: saving and transforming lives. By ensuring no brilliant idea goes unfunded, you provide the resources necessary to turn research into reality.

Your support in 2025 empowered a global network of researchers to work toward breakthroughs that are sparking change in care all around the world.

Investing in the Architects of Medicine

Global challenges require global solutions. Because cancer knows no borders, your research investments don’t either. As the recipient of a Conquer Cancer grant, Dr. Thomas Odeny is leading the charge against rare, virus-associated cancers, developing innovative treatments that benefit patients in our own backyard and across the globe in East Africa.

On World Cancer Research Day (September 24, 2025), Dr. Odeny shared his story, highlighting how support from Conquer Cancer allowed him to bridge the gap between resource-limited settings and cutting-edge discovery.

Dr. Odeny focuses his research on viral oncology, specifically rare diseases like Kaposi sarcoma. This cancer is most common in sub-Saharan Africa and among people living with HIV or AIDS. Without international collaboration, these rare diseases are difficult to study; there simply aren't enough domestic cases to complete clinical trials quickly.

“Your support provided me a bridge so that I could start this work without delay. It’s urgent work... and this funding was helpful for us to begin closing those gaps quickly.”
- Dr. Thomas Odeny, Oncologist and Researcher

Dr. Odeny’s drive is personal. Having lost his brother to the HIV epidemic in Kenya, he saw how research funding transformed a terminal disease into a livable reality. Today, he carries that hope into his clinic, fueled by the resources you provide. Learn more about Dr. Odeny and his work

Yelena Janjigianorange line

Your Impact on Gastroesophageal Cancer

Through your support of foundational Conquer Cancer grants, Dr. Yelena Janjigian pioneered research that took center stage at the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting. Today, she leads a global accelerator across four continents to fast-track treatments for previously incurable diseases, because you invested in her early vision. Learn more about her work.

Dr. Naqashline

You Are Funding New Frontiers in Immunotherapy

Dr. Abdul Rafeh Naqash, a 2025 Conquer Cancer Career Development Award recipient, is investigating new targets for immunotherapy in aggressive cancers. Your multi-year funding acts as a vital bridge, allowing him to pursue high-reward, innovative ideas that traditional federal support often overlooks. Learn more about his work.

Discovery

How Your Support Fuels Breakthroughs

The most valuable asset in cancer research isn’t a piece of lab equipment; it is the human mind. For 40 years, donors like you have fueled the discovery phase of oncology by investing more than $154 million into more than 1,700 Young Investigator Awards (YIA) and over 400 Career Development Awards (CDA).

Ensuring these programs are efficient and effective matters to you, and it matters to us. That's why last year we conducted an analysis on how these programs have impacted researchers working toward breakthroughs. We're happy to share that the investment is paying off.

The data confirms that when you support a research grant through Conquer Cancer, you do not just support a project. You launch a career. You provide the resources these doctors need to make research their primary mission, ensuring our brightest minds stay at the forefront of medicine.

The 15-Year Legacy of Your Support:

  • 88% of Conquer Cancer YIA and CDA researchers are still active in research today.
  • 45% have secured subsequent federal funding to expand their work.
  • 35% have reached the "Gold Standard" of R-level federal funding.

Your Legacy: 2025 Giants of Cancer Care

Your long-term support has cultivated leaders. In 2025, two more of your past grant recipients, Dr. Richard Gorlick (1998 CDA) and Dr. Brian Wolpin (2009 CDA), were inducted as “Giants of Cancer Care” for their decades of work in osteosarcoma and pancreatic cancer.

You Are Giving Patients Like Molly a Second Chance at Life

Imagine being 31 years old and going through a rare cancer diagnosis. After ending rounds of intense chemotherapy, radiation, and a major surgery to remove a 10-pound tumor, you finally reach remission, only to learn one year later that the cancer has returned and spread to your lungs.

This was Molly’s reality. Faced with a diagnosis of stage 4 fibrolamellar carcinoma, Molly refused to let the statistics define her future. Instead, she found hope in a groundbreaking clinical trial led by Dr. Marina Baretti, a researcher whose work is made possible by your support.

Today, Molly stands as a powerful testament to the impact of your giving. Thanks to the innovative clinical trial she joined, Molly celebrated her one-year anniversary of being in remission during 2025 Rare Cancer Month (September 2025). Read Molly’s story or hear Molly share it in her own words on the Your Stories podcast.

Emma Landeline

You Are Empowering
Resilience

Your support of researchers like Dr. Molly Taylor empowers survivors like Emma to reclaim their lives after cancer. By age 20, Emma had already faced two bouts of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, losing her singing voice and a sports scholarship along the way. Today, she is healing and finding the strength to move forward.

Your impact goes beyond the lab. Listen to Emma share her story in this video

Paula and Lexiline

Empowering the Next Generation
Through Clinical Research

When high school science teacher Paula (pictured with her daughter, Lexi) was diagnosed with a rare cancer, she teamed up with Dr. Abdul Rafeh Naqash, a researcher supported by Conquer Cancer, to explore several clinical trials.

By turning her treatment into a “living lesson plan,” Paula now uses her own journey to show her students the real-life power of science and the strength it takes to keep moving forward.

The Power of Community

Louder Than Cancer

In 2025, you helped us turn music into medicine. Through the “Louder Than Cancer” initiative with Amazon Music, fans of artists like Imagine Dragons and Blake Shelton helped us reach a goal of $100,000 to fund critical research and programs. Every stream was a step closer to a cure, proving that when we raise our voices together, we accelerate progress for everyone. Learn more
